Quick verdict

Payoneer is a solid choice for freelancers and marketplace sellers who need to receive payments from platforms like Amazon, Fiverr, and Upwork. Its marketplace integration is its strongest feature. However, its FX rates and fees are less competitive than dedicated FX platforms like Wise, and the interface feels dated compared to newer competitors.

Overview

Payoneer has been a staple in the cross-border payments space since 2005. It started as a solution for marketplace sellers and freelancers to receive payments from global platforms, and that remains its core strength today. With integrations into Amazon, Airbnb, Fiverr, Upwork, and dozens of other platforms, Payoneer is often the default payout method for the gig economy.

Beyond receiving payments, Payoneer offers a business account with multi-currency capabilities, a debit card, and working capital advances. However, the platform is not a full-service business bank — it excels at specific payout use cases rather than being a one-stop financial hub.

The help centre contains detailed guides for common tasks, particularly around marketplace integrations. The community forum is also active, though official responses there are infrequent.

Payoneer earns its reputation through deep marketplace integrations that make it indispensable for many freelancers and sellers. If you work on Upwork, Amazon, or Fiverr, Payoneer is often the easiest way to receive payments. That said, the platform shows its age in places — the interface is clunky, FX margins are wider than Wise or Airwallex, and customer support can be slow. It is a good tool for a specific use case rather than a complete financial platform.
